DIY essential Oil blends

Thank you Infinity Jars for Sponsoring this post! All thoughts & Opinions are my own.

Essential oils have a long history of elevating health & moods. Today I am going to share with you 5 essential oil blends that not only elevate your mood but also bring a host of health benefits along with them!

Before you get started in creating DIY essential oil blends, it’s extremely important to make sure you have the right materials! Always make sure you are storing your essential oil mixtures in opaque glass containers. Never store essential oils in plastic. Because essential oils are so potent, they will eat through plastic, especially citrus oils.

To store & mix my blends at home, I use some regular, 15 ml amber glass dropper bottles.

The lovely people at Infinity Jars sent me over some awesome cosmetic bottles including a 5ml dropper bottle & 5ml steel roller bottle. Infinity Jars specializes in airtight jars which are designed to preserve & rejuvenate freshness of oils, herbs, and any other DIY concoction. Another thing I really admire about their glass jars and bottles is the Ultraviolet Light filtering technology that is designed to block out UV light.

With that being said, after I mixed my oils in the 15ml bottles, I then filled up the 5ml roller with one blend and the dropper with another, and added them to my mini emergency kit I keep in my tote (which I mentioned in my “What’s In my Bag: College Edition” last year). I figured these 5ml bottles would make perfect travel bottles, and they did! I was expecting the scent to seep through the top like on regular dropper bottles, but I was really pleased when I opened my kit and didn’t smell anything!

life flo Pure Almond Oil

In addition to having the right storage containers, be sure you have a carrier oil on hand to dilute the mixture. Life-Flo Cold-Pressed Almond Oil is my favorite! It’s scentless and super light, so you skin will absorb all of it without leaving a greasy residue. If you saw the post I did last year on my Natural Skin Care Regimen, than you saw me also rave about it there. However if you don’t have any on hand, extra virgin olive oil will also make a great substitution.

The final thing you’re going to need is essential oils, of course! If you’re a regular reader, than you know Fabulous Frannie is my go-to for most of my essential oil needs.  I love her prices and her deals. She offers buy 3 get 1 free deals and most of her oils range between $5-$8, unlike DoTerra and Young Living, which can cost $40+ for one bottle of the same size.

*Important note: Be sure to do I skin test on any blend you decide to try, especially if you have sensitive skin. Also, do not wear citrus blends if you plan to be out in direct sunlight over an extended period of time, especially if your oils have been cold-pressed vs. steam-distilled. Citrus oils can cause photo-toxicity which can read more about here.

Directions: To put the blends together, add the mentioned drops to a 15 ml dropper bottle of your choice, then top the bottle off with your carrier oil (Almond oil or Extra Virgin olive oil). Once they are mixed, store them in a dark place to prevent deterioration. If you plan to make travel size bottles as well, make sure to test out the bottles before placing them around important documents and other items in your bag 🙂 Okay noooow let’s get mixing!

    • Thank you so much Samantha! I originally got into them because I heard they were great for natural hair growth (which they are), then from there I started learning about all they could really do! Now they are everywhere! I’m glad people are discovering they can help their health without prescriptions 🙂 If you give them a try, I suggest going for someone like Fabulous Frannie or maybe even NOW and Aura Cacia (haven’t tried these two yet)… They are far more inexpensive than the big brands. Also on amazon, there are a lot of inexpensive gift & getting started sets! Let me know if you give em a try ♥

  1. This is such a helpful post, thank you! I’ve been so curious and have been wanting to try essential oils for a long time, but get too intimidated and confused by all of the many MANY options. You make everything seem so clear and simple!

    • Aww thank you so much Tawni! You got me over here blushing! If you’re really interested in getting started, there are some great starter sets on Amazon! Go for ones that have at least peppermint, orange, and lavender in it. You can mix those 3 with pretty much anything else and come up with something wonderful 😀
