The power of music is magical! It possesses the ability to alter to any mood for the better or the worse. For example, If I’m feeling happy and all of sudden, Passenger’s “Let Her Go” comes on, I immediately feel somber & gloomy. On the other hand if I’m feeling down and depressed, and suddenly I hear a song like Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be”, I am instantly uplifted!

Well today, I’m going to use that music magic to share with you 15 amazing girl power songs that will invoke and inspire Confidence, body positivity, and self love! As you’ll notice, my taste in music is very eclectic. No genre is off limits! Let’s Go!

15 Girl Power Songs to Inspire Confidence & Self Love

1. All about that Bass – Meghan Trainor

Starting off the list of Girl power songs is “All About That Bass”. When Meghan Trainor came out with this body positive song, the world went crazy! Here was this non-size 2 artist basically saying I’m thick, I’m sexy, and I’m proud!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two, But I can shake it, shake it, like I’m supposed to do..”

“… If you got beauty, beauty, just raise ’em up. ‘Cause every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top”

2. Beautiful – Christina Aguilera

Discussing inner beauty, self-esteem, and insecurity issues, there was no way I could exclude Beautiful from this list of girl power songs! This gentle ballad oozes self-empowerment and self love.

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“I am BEAUTIFUL no matter what they say! Words can’t bring me down!”

3. Brave – Sara Bareilles

Sara was originally inspired to write this song by a friend who was scared to come out of the closet. However, since it’s release in 2013, Brave has become an anthem for individuality and self-acceptance!

“Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave”

4. Fight Song – Rachel Platten

Don’t act surprised, I know you knew this song was going to be on here!

This song is for anyone who has ever felt like giving up because someone said you weren’t good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, or whatever! Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” has a way of forcing the will to fight and press through, rise from the depths of your soul!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“This is my fight song, Take back my life song, Prove I’m alright song, My power’s turned on, Starting right now I’ll be strong, I’ll play my fight song, And I don’t really care if nobody else believes, ‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me”

5. Firework – Katy Perry

This dance-pop-rock empowerment anthem is a more upbeat, kick-ass version of Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful.” While touching on the issue of being insecurities, self acceptance, and body positivity, it also makes you want to fist-pump like crazy!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“Cause baby you’re a firework, Come on show ’em what you’re worth, Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh!” As you shoot across the sky-y-y”

“You don’t have to feel like a waste of space, You’re original, cannot be replaced”

“Maybe you’re reason why all the doors are closed, So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road”

6. Flawless – Beyonce ft Nicki Minaj

The song. that changed. and entire. generation! No list about girl power songs would be complete without Beyonce being somewhere on it! Even if you’ve never heard this song, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the increased usage of the word, “Flawless.”

This song inspires all girls to embrace their inner flawlessness, sassy-ness, sexiness, and ratched-ness (yea you got a little ratchet in you, i see it 😉 ). Sure, it’s a bit vulgar, but sometimes that’s what you need to wake your confidence up! Consider it, confidence caffeine 💁

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“I woke up like this, I woke up like this, We flawless, ladies tell ’em, Say ‘I look so good toniiiight’ ”

“I wake up looking this good, And I wouldn’t change it if I could … And you can say what you want, I’m the shit”

7. Girl on Fire – Alicia Keys

This song is for my current & future Girl Bosses, Goal Diggers, and anyone else who needs a shot of awesome girl power, “I Can do whatever and kill it” awesomeness!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“We got our feet on the ground, And we’re burning it down. Ohhhh oh oh oh oh, Got our head in the clouds, And we’re not coming down…”

“Looks like a girl but she’s a flame. So bright she can burn your eyes, Better look the other way”

“She’s on top of the world, Hottest of the hottest girls..”

8. Hit me with your best shot – Pat Benatar

Everyone has been knocked down once or twice. Whether it was by someone throwing cruel words at you, or just life itself. Although this song directed towards an ex, when I sing the song, I envision my haters, nay-sayers, and life! This songs urges you not to stay down and wallow in defeat, but get back up and fight!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“Hit me with your best shot, Fire Away”

“Knock me down, it’s all in vain, I’ll get right back on my feet again”

9. Independent women – Destiny’s Child

This song was originally made for the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack and we all know… nothing says girl power like Charlie’s Angels. The song invokes confidence, girl love, and most importantly, Independence!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“Question: Tell me what you think about me, I buy my own diamonds and I buy my own rings”

“All the women who are independent, Throw your hands up at me. All the honeys who makin’ money, Throw your hands up at me. All the mommas who profit dollas, Throw your hands up at me”

“I worked hard and sacrificed to get what I get. Ladies, it ain’t easy bein’ independent”

10. F**king Perfect – Pink

Pink, to me, is someone who has always boasted self love and acceptance in her girl power songs, and “Perfect” is no different. The main message of this song touches on self-harm, feeling like you’re less than, and depression… Something I sure most of us have been through one time or another. Love yourself, don’t focus on what others think about you or what your thoughts say about you.

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“Pretty, pretty please, don’t you ever, ever feel, Like you’re less than f**king perfect. Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel, Like you’re nothing, you’re f**king perfect to me”

“You’re so mean (so mean) when you talk (when you talk)
About yourself. You were wrong. Change the voices (change the voices) in your head (in your head) Make them like you instead.”

11. Pretty Girl Rock – Keri Hilson

Now this song… THIS SONG… delivers a huge dose of self love and female empowerment! Keri Hilson’s “Pretty Girl Rock” was and still is my go to jam when I need an extra boost of confidence or when I’m really feeling myself. In the video, Keri takes on the roles of many iconic African American Female artists from Dorothy Dandridge, Diana Ross, and Josephine Baker, to Janet Jackson & T-Boz from TLC. This self-love anthem has no choice but to be on my list of girl power songs!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“Pretty as a picture. Sweeter than a swisher. Mad ’cause I’m cuter than the girl that’s with you. I can talk about it ’cause I know that I’m pretty, And if you know it too then ladies sing it with me..”

“All eyes on me when I walk in, No question that this girl’s a 10. Don’t hate me ’cause I’m beautiful. Don’t hate me ’cause I’m beautiful”

12. Stronger – Kelly Clarkson

Like Independent Woman and Fight Song, this is all about encouraging girls to never give up on their goals. A song with a chorus saying, “what doesn’t kill you make you stronger” is the perfect antidote for those times when you want to give up! Girl Power Songs

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Stand a little taller. Doesn’t mean I’m lonely when I’m alone. What doesn’t kill you makes a fighter, Footsteps even lighter, Doesn’t mean I’m over cause you’re gone”

“You didn’t think that I’d come back. I’d come back swinging. You try to break me, but you see…”

13. This One’s for the Girls – Martina Mcbride

Hands down one of my favorite country songs! This song salutes women of different ages (Teenagers, Twenties, and middle age) who deal with the different struggles they face in life, like peer pressure & uncertainty in life. This message in this country classic is so powerful and positive, you can’t help but love it.

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“This one’s for the girls, Who’ve ever had a broken heart, Who’ve wished upon a shooting star. You’re beautiful the way you are”

14. Try – Colbie Caillat

The simple yet powerful ballad will touch every girl who felt like they’ve had to try to be someone they weren’t to fit in with others! Colbie reassures you that you don’t have to “Try” just be you.

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“You don’t have to try so hard, You don’t have to give it all away, You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up. You don’t have to change a single thing..”

“Wait a second, Why should you care, what they think of you, When you’re all alone, by yourself, Do you like you? Do you like you?”

15. You Can’t Stop The Beat – Hairspray {2007}

Do you ever hear a song playing inside your head while your walking that makes you feel like you’re on America’s Next Top Model? Well this one is mine! “You Can’t Stop The Beat” from the musical Hairspray!

This song touches on body positivity, self love, acceptance, & racism … all in one song! My absolute favorite part is Edna’s (John Travolta’s)!

Lyrics Worth Belting:

“You can’t stop today, As it comes speeding down the track. Child, yesterday is history, And it’s never coming back. Cause tomorrow is a brand new day, And it don’t know white from black..”

“Cause the world keeps spinning Round and round, And my heart’s keeping time To the speed of sound. I was lost til I heard the drums, Then I found my way, ‘Cause you can’t stop the beat…”

“You can’t stop my happiness, cause I like the way I am. And you just can’t stop my knife and fork when I see a Christmas Ham! And if you don’t like the way I look, well, I just dont give a damn!”

Hope you got inspired, uplifted, and encouraged by these awesome girl power songs! If so, spread the good vibes by sharing! Do you know of any other great songs like these? Tell me in the comments! Until next time my beautiful ones … peace ✌, love 💛, and Zaspyness 🌼
